Abit
BX6 Revision 2.0 7.25.99
Soft Menu Anyone who deals with computers knows that, in order to change multipliers, voltage, BUS speed, et cetera, you have to crack open the case and, either move around jumpers, or flip dip switches until you get the right configuration. To be blunt, doing that can get old quick. Luckily, Abit has answered the call when it comes to easily manipulating CPU settings by way of their jumper-less, switch-less Soft Menu technology. Soft Menu allows you to configure all aspects of the motherboard from the system BIOS. This allows easy modification of CPU settings. From Soft Menu, you can change System Bus speeds, alter multiplier and voltage output, and nearly anything else you can think of. Changing the settings of your CPU were just made a heck of a lot easier. With
all of the good, Soft Menu does have its faults. For one,
the BUS speeds are pre-set, so what you can do in terms of speed
is limited. Secondly, even the smallest error can cause
problems. For instance, if the multiplier is wrong the
computer will fail to boot, even though it serves no purpose
(Intel disables the multipliers on their CPU’s (Update: There
is an option in Soft Menu which "forces" the system
to boot, regardless)). However, the problems are pretty
insignificant and don't detract from the overall appeal of the
board. Documentation The manual for the BX6 is excellent. It outlines the features, installation, and covers all of the BIOS settings. It’s doubtful that you won’t find what you’re looking for. Black and white images are included to aid the in the installation process, as well. The only area missing is a section for some of the problems that may arise from a newly installed motherboard. Nitpicking can be left for another time, though.
