Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace
  Published by
Lucasarts
  Genre: Adventure
  Reviewed by Gabriel Macias

INTRODUCTION:
Let me just I don't care what the critics' say, The Phantom Menace rocked, which is more that I could say about the game.  I sort of enjoyed the game, but it is basically playing through the whole from beginning to end.  Of course you can take a couple of side missions on the way, but it doesn't offer enough for me to enjoy.  One of the good things about the game was the ability to play as some of the other characters from the movie from Qui-Gon Jinn to Queen Amidala, what a babe!  On the negative side it just gets boring very easily.

GRAPHICS
The graphics in this game as so-so.  The characters are rendered in low polygon counts so they look extremely blocky.  Another low aspect is that the environments are also poorly done.  For crying out loud I have seen better graphics on the Playstation, which doesn't utilize any 3-D acceleration at all.  Which makes me kind of wonder how the Playstation version will look.  Well, in final the graphics are just poorly done and looked rushed.
Score-70

INTERFACE and CONTROL
I give this game credit in the control department.  I was able to really get into this game since the four button functions are attack, jump, action, and force push.  Another plus is the easy to use interface, which lets you, configure the graphics and music to you liking.
Score-95

GAMEPLAY
Nothing original here, you basically just run around slash a couple of things and run again.  With the exception you have to do missions like find a keycard or protecting the princess who always seems to run in enemy fire, stupid princess.  Besides that there's really nothing original here, its all been done before. This time Lucasarts failed to take an existing genre and take it to the next level with the Star Wars theme.
Score-60

AUDIO
This is the only part where the game excels in.  Since I am such a big fan of the whole Star Wars series I was happy to hear that most of the music score was put into this game, including my favorite "Duel of the Fates".  And the sounds of effects are just incredible from the annoying voice of Jar Jar Binks to the swooshing of the lightsaber as it cuts through the air.  I just fell in love with the sound effects.

Score-95

DIFFICULTY
This game is extremely easy.  I was able to beat this game within a couple of days.  I usually spent most of my time playing the game again to see if I missed anything.  Well, it turns out I didn't.  Well, anyway the game offers really no challenge with the exception of some tough jumps and as for the final battle with Darth Maul.  Let's just say there is an easy way to beat him if you find a certain location.
Score-50

OVERALL
In final Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is a must-buy for the hard core fans of the serious, but if you are now you may just want to avoid this game and try another action adventure game.  It just doesn't offer enough.

OVERALL - 60
